ALMACO JACKS, MANGOVE SNAPPER etc. PORT O CONNER TX 30milesOUT fish'n TV

my neighbor, mickey is not really the outdoorsmen... he is really into baseball and football... anything texas a&m for sure! mickeys son corey is a great 13 year old base ball pitcher, but corey has a real love for the outdoors as well! i really try to teach corey as much outdoor stuff as possible... when its hot i ask him to go fishing... when its cold, i ask him to go bow hunting... he eats it up... well last summer i needed to go get a troll motor part for my minkota, at my boat shed in port o conner... before i left i ran down the street to see if mikey and corey if they would like to do a quick POC offshore trip... they said sure, so i said i would pick them up early the next morning to head south!
we got to poc and hooked up my blazer bay 2170... we went to launch at froggies bait, tackle and boat launch... after in the water we tied up to the froggies bulkhead.... corey said why are we not leaving? i told him before we go we need to catch some live bait! the froggies launch is loaded with bait since all the fish cleaning tables are right there... we droped some small hoods with shrimp and corey began to slay the pinn fish (piggy perch)! one after another.. he was in heaven already! he said "i love saltwater fishing!" it was his first salt water trip... a bunch of pin fish for bait and he was sold allready! after a dozen of those we headed down the intercoastal to the big jettys that go offshore....
it was a super calm day with seas at about a foot.... it was the sofest smothest, slow roll out of the jetties... i looked at mickey and as awesome as it was he looked super sick!!!!! i got real sad very fast.. i knew what that ment... no matter how swimming pool calm the seas were... no mater how many shrimp boats were anchored and culling their catch, no matter how quick i could get to the cloest oil rig,,, i was not going to happen! i asked mickey (corey's dad) if he was ok but i knew the answer... NO! i asked him if he would be better if we got behind the north jettie where it was real calm... he said he may last a little longer, so i did... i chunked out 2 live pinn fish and BAM! we got a small shark.. and before i got him in BAM! corey was in the fight of his life on a monster sting ray... by that time mickey was looking bad....i  decided to spare him and head into the bay were it was glass...
we pulled up to an old gas well head wooden rig, in the middle of the bay... not far from the intercoastal jetties and pass caviallio... this is a place i uaually stop for bait... on this day it became more than a bait spot.... the almaco jacks were around this rig in full force... if we caught one we caught 15! it was one after the other and they were a great fight on light tackle! that ended up being a real special day...
we headed back to froggies to load up and i saw a guy on the dock fishing that was there when we left! he was loaded up with mangove snapper...when you watch the video you will see chris doing a how to on mangove snapper off the dock at froggies... great tips... i cant wait to take corey back this summer to hit the salt in the kayaks... he will be just as pumped...
